CS 3.4.3 Admissions Policies

 

The institution publishes admissions policies that are consistent with its mission.

Narrative 

The mission statement of SSU reads in part that this institution "develops productive members of a global society through high quality instruction, scholarship, research, service, and community involvement" ( University Mission Statement ).  Academic and student service activities ranging from the admission process to instruction in the classroom to community involvement by members of various student groups demonstrate SSU’s efforts to achieve this goal.

Savannah State University accepts applicants from states across the nation and many foreign countries who demonstrate a reasonable probability of success at the college level. All requirements for admission are published in the University Catalogs, and on the Savannah State University website. General admission requirements are outlined in the section of the catalog entitled, Undergraduate Admission to the University . These requirements include an application for admission; official transcripts of courses completed; SAT or ACT scores; and a certificate of immunization. 

The Transfer Students section of the catalog outlines requirements for students seeking admission to the university from other postsecondary institutions, including an application for admission and official transcripts of postsecondary courses taken and completed at institutions that are accredited by the appropriate regional accrediting agency. The Special Admission Categories section of the catalog describes the admission policies and processes for nontraditional students; post-baccalaureate/non-degree students who are seeking admission to the university, but are not seeking to earn a degree from Savannah State; transient students who are attending other universities and enroll at Savannah State on a transient basis, usually during the summer term; Georgia residents who are senior citizens and person over 62 years of age; and students who seek admission to the university to audit courses for no credit.  Policies and procedures for admission to graduate programs are outlined in the Graduate Catalog .

In addition to the undergraduate and graduate admissions policies and procedures published in the undergraduate and graduate catalogs, respectively, admission policies and procedures are also published on the Savannah State University web site ( Undergraduate Admissions ; Graduate Admissions ). Initial registration of students admitted to the university as new students, transmits at the sophomore level or below is handled in the Center for Academic Success .

·          Applicants are systematically evaluated on admissions criteria as stated in the Student Catalog. All admission policies and procedures of University System of Georgia (USG) institutions are governed by the Board of Regents (BOR) of the USG ( BOR Policy Manual: 4.2, "Undergraduate Admissions" ; University System of Georgia Academic Affairs Handbook: 3.2 Requirements for Undergraduate Admissions

 

Conclusion

Savannah State University publishes admissions policies that are consistent with its mission in its undergraduate and graduate catalogs and on the university’s website.
